An Ohio woman died Sunday night in a wrong-way crash on Route 22 in Hanover Township.
State police said Dawn R. D'Andrea was driving west in the eastbound lanes of the highway near the Burgettstown exit shortly after 10:30 p.m. when she crashed head-on into another car.
D'Andrea, 53, of Wintersville, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash, according to the Washington County coroner's office.
Cortae Elder, 21, of Wintersville, who was a front-seat passenger in D'Andrea's car, suffered serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment, police said. His condition was not immediately known.
The driver of the other vehicle, Susan R. English, 58, of East Liverpool, Ohio, was also seriously injured in the crash and flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital for treatment, police said.
It was not immediately known where D'Andrea entered Route 22 heading in the wrong direction.
State police were assisted at the scene by volunteer firefighters from Hanover Township and Weirton, W.Va., along with paramedics from Fort Cherry EMS.
