STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Democratic Party held its annual Night at the Races fundraiser Saturday, bringing together party members, supporters and friends for an evening of fellowship, entertainment and support for local party efforts.
The event continued a tradition of honoring the memory of former state Rep. Jerry Krupinski, a respected public servant whose dedication to Jefferson County and its residents spanned decades.
Krupinski’s life was defined by service. After serving his country as a Marine, working in the coal mines and operating a successful insurance company, he entered public service, serving six years as a Jefferson County commissioner from 1981 through 1986 before representing the 98th District in the Ohio House of Representatives for 14 years, from 1987 until 2001.
Beyond his elected positions, Krupinski was deeply involved in the community. He was a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee for more than 50 years and devoted considerable time to community programs. His commitment to helping others extended well beyond the political arena and reflected a lifelong belief in the importance of serving his community.
Krupinski left a family legacy of public service. His wife, Eileen Krupinski, followed him into the Ohio House of Representatives, as did his son, Scott Krupinski, who served two terms as a Jefferson County commissioner, continuing the family’s commitment to representing the people of Eastern Ohio.
“Jerry Krupinski represented the kind of public service that makes a lasting difference in a community,” said Eddie Abdalla, chairman of the Jefferson County Democratic Party. “He understood where he came from, he understood the challenges working families faced and he dedicated much of his life to serving the people of Jefferson County. His legacy is one we should remember and continue to honor.”
Abdalla added that the annual fundraiser is an opportunity to support the party’s work and to recognize those who helped build the local Democratic organization and paved the way for future generations.
“Jerry gave so much of his life to this community and to public service. Remembering him through this event is a fitting tribute to his years of dedication and to the example he set for those of us who continue his work today,” Abdalla said.
The party thanked everyone who attended the event, purchased horses, contributed prizes, sponsored the fundraiser or volunteered their time to make the evening a success, Abdalla added.
The annual fundraiser provides support for the party’s ongoing work, including community outreach, voter engagement and efforts to support qualified candidates for public office.
“We are grateful for the support we received this past Saturday night,” Abdalla said. “Our party is built on the dedication of people who care about their neighbors and the future of our county. We look forward to building on that spirit of community and service.”
The party works to engage residents in the political process, support candidates for public office and address the issues that matter to the people of Jefferson County.
