NEW CUMBERLAND - Hancock County Schools is looking for people who could fill some key roles - especially substitute positions – within the school system.

"We’re searching for some employees," Schools Superintendent Walter Saunders noted during Monday’s meeting of the county board of education.

Of particular need in the district are full-time and substitute bus drivers.

Saunders said the district can assist in providing training to those interested in the jobs.

"We have all the tools necessary to get you through that process," Saunders said. "We can take care of it here through our career center and our HR department."

Currently, there is one full-time position available according to listings available through the Hancock County Schools website, with applications accepted through Nov. 2.

Substitute positions are available as well, with individuals to work as needed for three and a half to seven hours when called.

In addition, the district is seeking a full-time mechanic and a full-time HVAC technician to fill roles in its transportation and maintenance departments.

Saunders said anyone interested can contact the Hancock County Schools offices for more information.

"We will be glad to talk them through the process and let them know what that entails," he said.

Substitute positions are also available for teachers, LPNs, cooks, custodians and other aide posts throughout the county.

"All those are posted on our website. We’ve also been sharing them on social media," Saunders said.

During Monday’s meeting, the school board reviewed numerous personnel decisions which already had received approval by the West Virginia Superintendent of Schools as a result of the state’s continuing oversight of Hancock County Schools.

Those decisions included several substitute positions, as well as the naming of close to 40 coaches or extra-curricular assignments.
