The planning committee for the Herald-Star Jefferson-Harrison County Regional Spelling Bee presented by Youngstown State University has started work on this school year’s event, set for March 13 at Buckeye North Elementary School. Meeting Tuesday inside the R. Larry George Training Annex at the Jefferson County Educational Service Center were, from left, front, Susie Nolan, Buckeye Local School District coordinator; Nicolette Hill, Steubenville City Schools coordinator; Mary Ann Zeroski, pronouncer; Linda Lenzi, gifted services coordinator of the JCESC; Ross Gallabrese, senior writer of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times; and Cathie Thomas, Toronto City Schools coordinator; back, Ron Sismondo, regional bee coordinator, JCESC; Madison Taylor, elementary coordinator, Harrison Hills City School District; Amanda Sliva, junior high coordinator, Harrison Hills; Todd Herman, Indian Creek Local School District coordinator; Jennifer DiMarzo, representing Bishop John King Mussio; and Amber Weaver, Edison Local School District coordinator. The winner of the regional bee will travel to Washington, D.C., the week of May 30 to compete in the 2027 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Amy Perez is the coordinator for Bishop Mussio.
