STEUBENVILLE -- Wherever you live in Jefferson County, you are being asked to vote on at least four levies or issues in Tuesday’s election.
There are 18 issues across the county, including tax renewals, additional taxes and a local liquor option.
Everyone in the county will have the opportunity to vote on four tax issues: Two 1-mill, 10-year property tax renewals for current expenses and equipment and building improvements at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School; a 1.7-mill, 10-year property tax renewal for the Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities; and a 1.5-mill, five-year property tax renewal for the operation of the county’s 9-1-1 center.
Voters throughout the county will see statewide contested races for U.S. Senator, governor, attorney general, state auditor, secretary of state, state treasurer, the Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 state Supreme Court seats and the Feb .10 seat on the 7th District Court of Appeals. Contested races also will be found in the 6th Congressional District and the 96th state House District.
The Feb. 9 seat on the court of appeals is uncontested.
Locally, the only contested race is for the Jan. 1 seat with the Jefferson County commissioners, which pits incumbent Republican Eric Timmons against Democrat Brent Nemeth.
Four other county spots have unopposed races -- county auditor, Republican incumbent E.J. Conn; incumbent Common Pleas Judge Michelle Miller (Jan. 1 seat); Michael Bednar, who is running for the Feb. 9 seat; and incumbent Probate and Juvenile Judge Frank W. Noble Jr.
