WEIRTON - We may still be in the midst of the spooky season, but the Weirton Festival Committee already is looking forward to Christmas.
As it prepares for the annual Weirton Christmas on Main Street, committee members are, once again, seeking entries for their two traditional, holiday contests: the Gingerbread House Decorating Contest and the National Cutest Christmas Pet Photo Contest.
"They are open as of Oct. 1," noted Assistant City Manager DeeAnn Pulliam, who is a member of the festival committee.
The Pet Photo Contest has an entry deadline of Nov. 13, and allows anyone to participate, no matter where they live.
Those interested may enter, vote, or find more information by going online to www.gogophotcontest.com/cutestchristmaspetphotocontestweirton
A portion of the proceeds from the pet photo contest will benefit the Hancock County Humane Foundation.
The contest is supported through the sponsorship of Hancock County Savings Bank, Kroger, Outback Steakhouse, Pet Supplies Plus, Taylor & Makricostas PLLC, and the Hancock County Humane Foundation.
Prizes will be awarded to the three entries receiving the most votes.
The deadline for the Gingerbread House contest is Nov. 13, with this year's competition including Youth, Adult, and Group Effort categories, along with a People's Choice award.
The contest is supported by Fiesta, Sweet Temptations, Primanti Bros, Pastaio, Papa John's, DeFelice Bros. Pizza, Sheetz, Theo Yianni's, Gus's Goodies, Taylor & Makricostas, and the Weirton Board of Parks.
More information on both contests also can be found through the Christmas on Main Street Facebook page.
