Bernie Duresko

Bernard J. “Bernie” Duresko, 75, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.

He was born December 12, 1938, in Mingo Junction, OH, a son of the late Michael and Mary Agnes (Tomochek) Duresko.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Duresko in 1994; and three sisters, Dorothy Ann Duresko, Catherine M. Maguschak and Mary Louise Duresko.

Bernie graduated from Mingo High School in 1957 and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army where he went to the Bay of Pigs. He retired in November of 1993 after 36 years from Weirton Steel Corp. Bernie was Catholic by faith and a former Boy Scout leader in Mingo. He was an avid woodworker and loved the outdoors, enjoying nature, and watching the birds.

Surviving are his wife Darlene A. (Maxwell) Duresko whom he married May 25, 1968; a son, Brian Duresko and his wife Lori of Rochester, Minnesota; a brother-in- law, Paul Maguschak of Coraopolis, PA; a sister- in-law, Carole Maxwell of Mingo Junction; two nieces, Lynn (Mark) Cimino and Mariann Maguschak; a great- nephew, Collin Cimino; and a sister, Delores “Jean” Shively of Columbus, OH.

In following with Bernie’s wishes there will be no visitation.

Friends may gather to celebrate Bernie’s life at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, on Thursday December 4 from 5 p.m. until the time of his memorial service at 7 p.m. with Sister Ellen Dunn officiating. Private interment at New Alexandria Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed in Bernie’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
