Michael Robert Keane, 70, of Steubenville entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Kobacker House in Columbus.
He was born August 23, 1944, in Steubenville. He was the son of the late Robert Keane and Pauline Flaherty Keane Penti.
Michael is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy, who died in 2005.
He graduated from Catholic Central High School, class of 1962, and attended The Ohio State University and was the ultimate Buckeye fan. Michael was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the Air Force. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel after 40 years of service that included the open hearth, BOF and caster.
Michael was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of St. Peter’s Church, St. Pius X and Holy Rosary churches throughout his life.
Michael was an amazing husband, father and grandfather who always put his children first. His retirement was spent well with many good friends and travels. Most of all, he will be missed by his son and daughter and his five grandchildren who adored him. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and attending his yearly cousins’ reunions. He will be greatly missed at his granddaughter Ashleigh’s gymnastics meets, where he was lovingly known as “Gymnastics Grandpa.” He was her biggest fan.
Michael enjoyed boating, fishing, sports, traveling, cards and bocce ball and was in annual attendance at many Buckeye games that he enjoyed attending with is son, Robert. He also never visited a museum he didn’t appreciate!
Michael is survived by his daughter, Kristine (Paul) Provan of Gahanna, Ohio; son, Robert (Marilyn) Keane of Canal Winchester, Ohio; grandchildren Paul Michael and Ashleigh Provan and Courtney, Brayden and Alayna Keane; sister Janet (Eldon) Schriner of Austin, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Nau as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Monday at 5 p.m.
