Ronald Don Taflan Sr., 80, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in the Weirton Geriatric Center.
He was born April 15, 1938 in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Alexander Don and Julia Jackowski Taflan.
Ron retired from Weirton Steel, where he worked as a computer operator. He was a member of the Cove Presbyterian Church, WSX 25 Year Club and participated in several Weirton bowling leagues. Ron excelled at sports, but his greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren play. Ron was also an ardent fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ola Murchland Taflan; sons, Ronald (Mary Ann) Taflan and John (Tina) Taflan, all of Weirton; daughters, Rhonda (Patrick) Sample of Cincinnati, OH, and Jennifer Dahlem of Pittsburgh, PA; brother, Alexander Taflan of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Sean (Stephanie) Sample, Jordan Taflan, Rachel (Scott) Johnson, Tyler Taflan, Chelsey (Brandon) Boespflug, Sarah, Justin, Jarod, Joshua and Trenton Taflan and Ethan and Julian Dahlem; great- grandchildren, Logan and Beckett Sample; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Friday 4-8 p.m. at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday. Elder Roger A. Criss will officiate. Interment will be private.
