Sarah L. Mumford, 90, of Weirton, WV passed away Saturday October 5, 2019 at Weirton Medical Center.
She was born July 30, 1929 in Ben Franklin, TX, the daughter of the late Harold and Justin Avery.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Mumford; sons, Jack, Stan, and Scott Mumford; sister, Laura Avery; brother, Bill Avery. Sarah was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Carlsbad, CA; retired from California revenue and recovery department/ County of San Diego as the director of child support.
She was the first woman motocross racer in California as well as a drag racer. She got to live life exactly how she wanted to, and that included enjoying her tequila.
Surviving are her daughter, Robin (late Ken) Melvin of New Cumberland, WV; sister, Connie Schmidt of Georgia; grandchildren, Josh Mumford, Sean Mumford, Sabrina Melvin, Ashley Melvin, Brooke (Ambrose) Burglia, Erin (Mike) Burdine, Scott Mumford, Dean (Carol) Mumford; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Isaac, and Michael Burdine, Ella Martin, Gabriel Scott, Kayligh and Jillian Mumford, Isabella and Gaetano Burglia, Hayden, Noah, and Brody Melvin, Christina Melvin; and her dearest friends whom she considered her additional family, Sharon Dragisich; June and Danny Cook.
