Roy Humes

Roy Richard Humes, 82, of Follansbee, WV died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at his home.

He was born January 16, 1940 in Follansbee, WV, son of the late Roy Albert and Hattie "Ilene" (Pitts) Humes.

Roy graduated from Follansbee High School in 1958. He retired from Weirton Steel as a supervisor in the electronics shop and he taught the Multi-craft Apprenticeship Program at West Virginia Northern Community College.

He liked to stay busy. In his spare time, he worked as a technician for Gerrero Music in Steubenville, OH. He realized one of his dreams to become a pilot and spent many hours taking friends and family to "fly the skies" in his Piper Cherokee.

Roy was keeping people in touch around the world years before the internet and cellular communication as a licensed Ham Radio operator. He was affiliated with "MARS", the Military Auxiliary Radio System, which is a United States Department of Defense sponsored program.

Roy will be fondly remembered for his wit and quick comebacks. He loved feeding and watching the birds in his backyard. He cooked a mean steak on the grill with all the sides and fixin's, and he enjoyed catching up with friends at Mustang Sally's and The House of Brews.

He is survived by his three sons, Matt and fiancee, Becky Bowman Baldauf of Saint Johnsbury, VT, Allen of Blairsville, GA, and Timothy and wife Lori Dunn of Arcadia, Florida; five grandchildren, A.J. and her partner, Brian of Blairsville, GA, Ian of Manchester, NH, Morgan and Trevor of Follansbee, WV, and C.J. of Weirton, WV; one great-granddaughter, Kourtney of Blairsville, GA.; two sisters, Helen DeAndrea of Steubenville, OH, and Laura Frattini of Pittsburgh, PA, as well as several nieces and nephews and his caring neighbors, Rob and Lisa Webster.

He was predeceased by his sister; Mary Ann Winstel, his daughter-in-law, Lori Butler Humes; and the mother of his children, Joanne Bair Humes.

Per his request, there will be no services.

The James Funeral Home of Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 is honored and privileged to serve the Humes family with private arrangements.
