Joseph Higginbotham
JOSEPH LEE HIGGINBOTHAM, 81, of Paris, PA, passed away Sunday April 10, 2022 at Weirton Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1941 in Hastings, WV, son of the late Melvin E. and Clara Fisher Higginbotham. He is also preceded in death by brother, William L. Higginbotham.
Joseph was a great white hunter who went on many gun shoots. He was one of the founders of the Paris Sportmen’s Club in 1961. He loved riding motorcycles and was an avid dirt bike racer with lots of trophies to prove it. Some of his fondest memories were picking up his granddaughter from school on his Can-Am Spyder and his nightly drives on his tractor with his great-grandson. He loved coaching baseball and attending many of his grandkids’ sporting events including soccer trips. Joseph was a member of the NRA, the Rifleman’s Association and National Arbor Day Association, to name a few. He loved donating to many charities and spending time caring for his gardens and orchards. Joseph loved his bluegrass music and annually attended the Old Fiddler’s Convention in Galax, VA with his whole family. Joseph retired from Weirton Steel Corporation as an Engineer on the railroad.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Kathy Hanlin Higginbotham; daughters, Sheila Seavolt (Gary) and Lynn Robinson; son, Ted Higginbotham (Anne); grandchildren, Joseph, Brandie (Adam Rank MAC stationed in Bahrain), Danny, Brandee Rank AD3 stationed in Japan, Jake, Mandee, Scott and Cermantha; great-grandchildren, Claira and Darren; brothers, Melvin E. Higginbotham (Marion) and Robert C. Higginbotham (Debbie); and half-sister, Colleen Chapman.
Visitation will take place Friday April 15, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 8:00PM at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, where the funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00AM with Reverend Dr. Christina Hosler presiding. Interment will follow at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA.
