GERALDINE “GERRI” MAYLE-REED

Geraldine (Gerri) I. Mayle-Reed, 93, of Steubenville, OH, passed away lovingly on July 4, 2023 surrounded by her children in her daughter’s home.

She was born April 11, 1930 the daughter of the late Calvin B. Mayle and Anna Mae Bateman-Mayle.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Reed and her siblings Rachel, Carrie, Robert, Lloyd, Calvin, Eleanor, David and Roger as well as her grandson Joey and great grandson Jude.

She was Methodist by faith, a member of Brilliant and New Alexandria United Methodist Church. She came to her faith through her grandmother Rachel M. Mayle, from whom she inherited her love of God.

She was Spiritual Life Secretary of the Steubenville District United Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Services, Past President of the Brilliant United Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Services, a lay minister of the United Methodist Church. Sunday school teacher and youth counselor.

She was also Past President of the Brilliant Little League Baseball and Softball Association. Past President of the Jefferson County Golden Sphinx Shrine Club and a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine Club of North America.

Surviving is a brother Charles Mayle of Hopewell, VA and the joys of her life Linda L. Ashton of Scottsdale AZ, Charles W. (Jean) Hockenberry of Galena, OH, Gary J. Hockenberry of Hartville, OH, Vickie A. Taylor of Steubenville, OH, Bryan Hockenberry of Cleveland, OH, and Krista R. (Jessica) Hockenberry of Valencia, PA. Also surviving are her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Southern Valley Hospice, especially Lisa and Angela for their guidance and love allowing their mother to leave this world with dignity.

Friends will be received at Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville on Saturday from 11 AM until time of funeral services at 1 PM with Pastor Jason Elliott officiating.

Burial will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
