DONNA JACKSON

Donna Jean Jackson, 72 of Weirton, passed away on July 31, 2023, at the Forbes Regional Hospital after bravely battling a nine-month illness.

She was born on November 2, 1950, in Steubenville, Ohio, to George and Margaret Brondos Shernit.

In her journey through life, Donna cherished her family and left behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas and John G. Shernit, as well as her sister, Margaret Ann Patton.

On May 4, 1974, she married the love of her life, John M. Jackson, with whom she shared countless happy memories. Their journey together began when John took Donna Jean to her prom as a favor to his sister, and they built a strong and loving relationship. John affectionately referred to her as “Pookie.”

Donna’s life was full of joy and adventure. She had a mischievous spirit that complemented her caring and loving nature. Among her favorite pastimes were attending family gatherings, spending time at the beach in Titusville, Florida, enjoying picnics, boating, and playing volleyball. A true Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Donna’s love for sports and socializing brought her joy and connected her with many friends. She enjoyed walking with the “Morning Walkers” at Fort Steuben Mall and had a passion for shopping especially for clothes and purses.

Her professional career was a testament to her dedication and work ethic. Donna served Weirton Steel for an impressive 32 years, contributing her skills to the Insurance Department and the Tin Mill Accounting. After retiring from Weirton Steel, she continued working for US Airways as a gate attendant and at Mountaineer Park’s front desk.

Donna nourished her faith at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church.

In addition to her loving husband, John, Donna is survived by many nieces and nephews, along with her seven “Jackson Sisters”.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held Friday from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, 133 Lovers Lane Steubenville, OH

Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
