BARBARA CARLSON

Barbara Ann (Delahunty) Carlson, 85, formerly of New Cumberland passed away August 10, 2023. She was recently living in Parker, Colorado. Barb was born in Oil City, PA on January 3, 1938, and was a daughter of the late James and Edna (Lantz) Delahunty.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Paul Carlson of New Cumberland, WV. They were married on April 19, 1958, in Oil City, PA and celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Barb attended Oil City High School where she met her husband-to-be at the age of 16. She worked at the Northwest Pennsylvania Bank and Trust until she married, and in 1960 moved to Fort Sill, OK with newborn son Jeffery to be with Paul where he was Sergeant First Class in the US Army. In 1964, the Carlsons moved back to Oil City where Paul began his career with Consolidated Container (formerly the Continental Can Company). Son Chad was born in 1966. The Carlsons made their final move to New Cumberland in 1971.

Barb was a very dedicated mother, rarely missing a band concert, football, baseball, or basketball game! She was active in band and sports booster clubs and Chester First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Life Group and volunteered for Bible School and FISH. She was a Poll Worker for many years, enjoyed bowling and the game Scrabble, and played in the women’s golf league at Beaver Meadows Golf Club.

Mrs. Carlson worked at Northern Hancock Bank and Trust in Newell and Potters Savings and Loan in East Liverpool. She was a loving nanny to several neighborhood families. After her husband’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their RV to visit family, attend Penn State football games, and complete a 3-month trip to Alaska. Barb also realized a life-long dream when she and Paul vacationed in Hawaii.

She will be remembered with love and respect by her children: Jeff (Caryn) Carlson of Dover, DE and Chad (Jennifer) Carlson of Parker, CO; her brothers Ronald (Mary Lou) Delahunty of Pittsburgh, PA and Richard (Sue Ellen) Delahunty of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Alan, Thomas and Eleanor Carlson of Parker, CO, and her nephew who lived with Paul and Barb during his youth, Steve (Juanita) Kelly of San Diego, CA. Barb was preceded in death by sister Connie (Donald) Myers of Oil City, PA, and brother Carl (Rosemary) Delahunty of Dyer IN.

Pastor Bob Macek will celebrate Barb’s life on Saturday, September 30, at 10:30am at the Chester First United Methodist Church. A continued time of remembrance with food and fellowship will follow the service at the church on Saturday, from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Pittsfield, PA Saturday afternoon.
