JEAN ROTELLA

Jean (DiCarlo) Rotella reached the end of her wonderful life on July 18, 2023, at the age of 96 in Sarasota, Florida. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her own home.

Jean was born on May 7, 1927 to Filippo (Phillip) DiCarlo and Pasqua Fracasso, of Lazio, Italy. Jean lived with her parents and two siblings in Mingo Junction, Ohio.

Jean met her future husband, Dominick Rotella, through her brother and his then- girlfriend, Frances Rotella (Dominick’s sister) on a bowling date. They were married on August 28, 1948, and raised four children in the Steubenville area surrounded by extended families.

While raising her four children, Jean worked a variety of office jobs, including working in the high school administrative office at Catholic Central and many years at the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office. After moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1996, her bookkeeping and administrative skills were again useful as she volunteered at the Mercy Hospital Gift Shop. Jean permanently moved to Sarasota, Florida in 2018 and enjoyed the remainder of her life close to family.

Jean enjoyed traveling around the world with family and friends, from road trips through California to visits to Italy. She loved to play cards, especially bridge, and belonged to many different groups over the years. She also enjoyed cooking and baking cookies, especially when her family came for a visit. Jean loved watching Jeopardy and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame. For many years she enjoyed line dancing and in her later years she carefully attended to her many plants and flowers. In her final years Jean was also devoted to her pet cat, Callie.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Dominick Rotella, to whom she was married for over thirty years; her parents, her brother Mike DiCarlo, and her sister Flora D’Alessio. She is survived by her four children: Diane Snedeker (Jerri Goodlin) of North Port, Florida; Judith Sclafani, of Sarasota, Florida; Jerry Rotella (Jennifer) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Sharon Radakovich, of Sarasota, Florida. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Denis Snedeker, Drew Snedeker, Devon Smith (Cody Smith), Michael Sclafani (Ashlie Cramer), Jenna Sclafani, Emily Rotella (Mike Cummings), Allison Rotella, Daniel Rotella (Morgan Rotella), Lauren Radakovich (Riccardo Cimo); and five great- grandchildren.

Services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Steubenville, Ohio on November 11, 2023 at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.
