GINO MECA
								Gino Anthony Meca, 93 of Follansbee, WV, passed away peacefully at 9:20 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Liza’s Place – Valley Hospice with his daughters at his side.
Gino was born on January 5, 1930 in Follansbee, WV. He was the son of the late James Meca and Louise (Marrocca) Meca.
Gino served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp serving overseas as a Private First Class. He worked for 45 years at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel as a Boilermaker where he served on committees elected by his rank and file with the Union 1190 helping with safety, grievances and wages. Gino was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee, WV, VFW and American Legion serving as past member of the firing squad, Cedar Lodge, Garibaldi Lodge and a life member of the Hooverson Heights and Colliers Sportsmen’s Clubs. He was the Elk of the Year in 2005. Many will remember Gino for his love of his garden, especially his tomato plants, cooking his red sauce with meatballs, a nice glass of wine and a cold beer; but most of all, his hard work, dedication and his devoted love of his daughters.
In addition to his parents, Gino was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Lou (McFadden) Meca, three siblings, Joseph Meca, Rose Ferguson and Stella Panella and a sister-in-law, Nina Meca.
Gino is survived by his three daughters, Gina, Cynthia and JoLynn (Michael Leo) Meca, a grandson, Carlito Gilchrist and his wife, Courtney, a great granddaughter, Daela Gilchrist, a brother, James “Honey” Meca, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM with Vigil Service at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 where funeral will commence at 9:30 AM.
A Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee, WV with Father Jude Perera, presiding.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee, WV with Military Honors by the United States Marine Corp and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
