MICHAEL BOZZELLI
Michael Bozzelli, 56, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away very suddenly on December 25, 2023 at The James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born on November 10th, 1967 in Steubenville to the late Fedele Antonio Bozzelli and Antonietta (Romano) Bozzelli.
In addition to his father, Michael is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Michele and Aquilina (Gallucci) Bozzelli and maternal grandparents Lorenzo and Maria Rosa (D’Avanzo) Romano as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
He is survived by his loving mother Antonietta, of Steubenville, with whom he resided, and sister Lina Bozzelli, along with her husband Steven Dykes, both of Columbus, Ohio, who were all at Michael’s bedside when he passed away and are left to cherish his memory.
Michael graduated from Catholic Central High School, Class of 1986, and the former Jefferson Technical College, Class of 1989.
He volunteered at the Prime Time Senior Citizen Center in Steubenville, since 2013 when it first opened. He would be found there greeting members and visitors at the front desk, assisting with memberships, operating Bingo as the Bingo Caller and many other duties including knowing just about every member’s name and their personal story. In September of 2019 he was very surprised, and even more honored, to have received the Steubenville Herald-Star’s Annual Community Star Award in recognition for his volunteerism.
When he could no longer volunteer at Prime Time, Michael still found a way to keep people connected.
He helped the membership overcome the isolation of COVID, by creating programs such as “The Lunch Bunch,” which led to larger groups and this soon developed into the Our Place Activity and Resource Center for Adults Age 50+.
Michael became Director of Communications at Our Place, but he didn’t particularly embrace this title because he always wanted the focus to be on others. Even during Michael’s health battle, he continued to stay connected with many of the members. Connecting people was his priority.
He was a member of and an altar server at the former St. Pius the Tenth Roman Catholic Church, now Triumph of the Cross Parish, Holy Rosary Church, in Steubenville. He could be found attending Mass in the same spot, at the back of the church, in his wheelchair.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 2nd, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm with a vigil service at 4:00 at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville.
A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd at 11:30 am at Holy Rosary Church, 280 Rosemont Avenue, Steubenville, with Father Matthew Gossett as celebrant. Following the service, Michael will be laid to rest in The Sorrowful Mysteries Mausoleum, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, where, in time, he will be surrounded by the rest of his immediate family.
Michael preferred that any expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, be made as a donation to Our Place Activity and Resource Center, to be used towards programming promoting fellowship. Michael also wanted to encourage everyone to, from time to time, simply perform a meaningful act of kindness, especially to someone in need, while keeping his memory in mind.
Memorial donations may be made to Our Place Activity and Resource Center, P.O. Box 524, Steubenville, OH 43952
