RICHARD FREELAND
Richard E. “Hoop” Freeland, 67, of Weirton, passed away at his son’s home, on Sunday, December 10, 2023.
Born January 11, 1956, in Fairmont, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Clara “Tootie” Pethtel Freeland.
He was a graduate of Union High School Class of 1973. Hoop dedicated numerous years as a Millwright for Weirton Steel Corporation.
He was a member of the Paris Church of the Nazarene, where he formerly served as the treasurer. A member of the Paris Sportsman Club, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting. On college football game day, you could find Hoop watching his favorite team WVU.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Tammy Strope Freeland, whom he married on October 2, 1976. He will also be missed by his daughter, Jennifer Freeland of Winston-Salem, NC.; son, Adam Freeland of Weirton; Hoop’s adopted girls, Alexandria Thompson Winston-Salem, NC. and Heather Dirks of Pfafftown, NC.; brothers, Gary “Hank” Freeland (Janet) of Washington, PA., and Jim “Pete” Freeland of Burgettstown; the joys of his life, grandchildren, Noah Freeland of Weirton, Kenley and Mila Dirks of Pfafftown, NC. and numerous many nieces and nephews.
Pastor Joe Ryan and Rev. Larry Barkley will celebrate Hoop’s life, Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Paris Church of the Nazarene, 9 Long St. Paris, PA. 15001, at 11:00AM. These arrangements were entrusted with the Arner Funeral Chapel.
