MICHAEL DISHAUZI
Michael Edward Dishauzi, 90, of Weirton, WV, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024. His loving family was at his side.
Born on August 21, 1933, in Holliday’s Cove, WV, Mike was one of two boys born to Steve and Mary Chuma Dishauzi.
A graduate of Weir High School in 1952, Michael excelled in baseball, earning a scholarship to West Liberty State College. During his time at college, he became a member of the Chi Nu Fraternity. In 1956, amidst the Korean War, Michael was drafted into the United States Army.
On December 31, 1959, Mike attended a New Year’s Eve dance where he laid eyes on Angie Sweda on the dance floor. Their love story unfolded, and on Valentine’s Day, they became engaged, with the announcement made by none other than Bobby Vinton. On June 18, 1960, Michael and Angie were united in marriage.
Mike worked most of his career at Weirton Steel, where he worked for over 30 years in the Tin Mill. Angie dedicated more than 20 years to education as a schoolteacher.
Known for his sensitive and kind nature, Mike was laid-back with a passion for the arts. He was very artistic by nature. In his free time, he enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid golfer, achieving the remarkable feat of recording six holes in one. He was a member of the former Pleasant Valley Country Club and later continued playing with the “over the hill gang”. Around his home, Michael took pride in his meticulous lawn.
Mike was also actively involved in Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. There, he served as a Eucharistic minister, a greeter, and was a member of the Holy Name and a member of the Knights of Columbus 3734.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve.
He will be remembered with love by his loving wife of 63 years, Angie, cherished numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and Godchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, January 29th from 10 AM until 11 AM at the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday.
Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mike’s memory to Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic School, Weirton.
