RUTH ANN DUNFEE
Ruth Ann Dunfee, 94, passed away very peacefully on January 6, 2024 at the Villa Vista Nursing Home in Steubenville.
Born October 25, 1929, in Wheeling, WV, to the late Bernard T. and Agnes M. (Myles) Henne, Ruth grew up in Wheeling, attending St. Michael’s Church and Grade School. After graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1947, she went to work for the Bell Telephone Co. In August 1952 she married Ronald R. Dunfee, and together they raised six children. She was very strong in her faith and a very active volunteer, especially for the funeral lunch ministry, at Holy Family Church. Ruth and Ronald were in fact charter members of Holy Family Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald R. Dunfee, in 1999, her sister, Bernadette Henne, and her precious daughter, Karen Marie, in 1967. She is survived by her children; Richard A. (Carole) Dunfee, Barbara R. (Kevin) DeFebbo, Father James M. Dunfee, Beth A. (Dennis) Dye, Mary Ellen (Larry) Hardin, Anne Michelle (Mark) Derham, and a sister, Mary Agnes Gribben. as well as numerous grandchildren, great – grandchildren and nephews & nieces.
Mom and Dad were both very sacrificing parents for their children in the midst of financial hardship. It was mom’s faith in heaven that helped us children, when we were all very young, deal with our little sister’s death at the age of 2 ¢. Mom had a profound sense of God’s providence that God works all things out for the best. She was a very faithful Catholic, and a devoted wife and mother.
The Dunfee family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and aides at the Lancia Villa Vista Nursing Home. Some of them, so affectionate for mom, called her Ru and they all have stories to tell that came from mom’s personality, even in her long decline with dementia.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial donation to St. Agnes Church.
Visitation will take place at St. Agnes Church, 204 St. Clair Ave. in Mingo Junction on Thursday, January 11 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Friday, January 12 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. Ruth’s son, Father James M. Dunfee, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
