MARJORIE COPENHAVER

Marjorie (Herceg) Copenhaver, 84 of Follansbee, WV died peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 17, 1939, in Jefferson Township, PA a daughter of the late Michael Herceg and Barbara (Tomasko) Herceg Olenick. After Michael Herceg was killed in a coal mining accident at Marjorie’s age of four, she was blessed with a second father in Joseph Olenick whom also preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jackie Lee “Jack” Copenhaver on August 13, 2020, a grandson, Max Copenhaver Bailey; four siblings, Vivian Kosarik, Barbara “Dolly” Whitco, Michael Thomas Herceg, and Mary Catherine Allas.

Marjorie was very proud of being a coal miner’s daughter and carried that pride throughout her life. Marjorie graduated from Follansbee High School Class of 1957. Marjorie worked as a florist, telephone operator, and insurance office manager but most of all Marjorie’s passion was homemaking and raising her children. Marjorie and Jack taught their family the importance of seeing all people equally. She was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where her faith was very important to her, and she passed that onto her children. She also passed on her love of gardening, flowers, and nature to them. She was known for being an excellent cook and her children always said her secret ingredient was always “Love”.

Marjorie is survived by four devoted children, Jamie Copen- haver-Cribbs and husband, Craig of Mingo Junction, OH, Barbara Copen- haver-Bailey and husband, Jeffery of Morgantown, WV, Jacquelynn Copen- haver of Morgantown, WV, and Jack “Doug” Copenhaver of Follansbee, WV; one brother, Joseph Olenick of Colliers, WV; a brother-in-law, Ben “Buck” Copenhaver and wife, Norma and sister-in-law, Phyllis Aria both of Colliers, WV; three grandchildren, Ashley, Clay, and Zeke, and three great grandchildren, Angelina, Dominic, and Christopher; along with numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25th from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 6:30 pm at the Mullenbach Funeral Home 669 Main St. Follansbee, WV 26037 and again on Monday, February 26th from 9:00 am – 9:45 am.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am with Father Gerald Mouka officiating at St. Anthony Catholic Church 1017 Jefferson St. Follansbee, WV 26037.

Interment will follow privately at St. John Haven of Rest Cemetery.
