THOMAS TRAUBERT
Thomas A. Traubert, age 94, died Thursday, February 8, 2024. He was born March 1, 1929, in Washington, PA son of the late Bernadette O’Dea and Arthur (Pete) T. Traubert.
He grew up in Wellsburg, WV where he attended St. John the Evangelist Elementary School. After graduating from Wheeling Central Catholic High School in 1947, he attended West Virginia University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1951. He was also a member of ROTC and commissioned as an officer for the US Air Force. Following college, he served 2 years during the Korean War as an Air Force medical supply officer in France.
After completing his duty, he began his career at Gray Drug in Alliance, Ohio. Two years later, in 1955, he opened a pharmacy inside Traubert’s Cut Rate store on 800 Charles Street in Wellsburg and renamed the store Traubert’s Pharmacy on St. Joseph’s Day March 19, 1955.
He married Anna Lillian Daldos from Alliance, on October 27, 1956. They began their lives together in Wellsburg, WV living above Traubert’s Pharmacy.
Tom and his pharmacy served the Wellsburg and surrounding communities for 42 years until his retirement in 1997.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Anna, brother Regis, and sister Rosemary.
Following the death of his wife, he met and married Blanche Babela on March 12, 2008, who survives.
Tom loved golfing and skiing which he enjoyed until he was 78 years old. He was a voracious reader with hundreds of books on his Kindle. He was a WVU sports and Steeler fan, and he was especially fond of procuring, making, and detonating fireworks every 4th of July. He was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, American Legion, and Wellsburg Elks.
In addition to his wife Blanche and sister Carolyn Traubert Zurbuch (Elkins, WV), Mr. Traubert is survived by son, Thomas D. Traubert and wife Leslie (Simsbury, CT), daughter Patricia Baum and husband John (Wexford, PA), daughter Denise Traubert (Cranberry Twp, PA), stepdaughter Patty Allen and husband Craig (Toronto, OH) and stepson David Babela (Wintersville, OH), eight grandchildren- Alex Traubert (Denver, CO), Emma Traubert (Chicago, IL), Major John P. Baum and wife Lieutenant Margaret Miller Baum (San Diego, CA,) Monica Smith-Baum and husband Dylan (Squirrel Hill, PA), Gregory Baum (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) Joshua Traubert (Richmond, VA) and Rachel Traubert (Saint Petersburg, FL). His greatest joy was interacting with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, and again Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 9-10:30 a.m. Reasner Funeral Home Wellsburg, WV.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, with Father Justin Golna officiating at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, WV. Interment will follow in Franklin Cemetery with full military graveside rights by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
