DOLORES ANTIGO
It is with great sadness as well as gratitude for a life well lived that Marcia Lang and Lauren Finnical announce the death of their beautiful, accomplished and simply remarkable mother, Dolores Antigo. Dolores made her home in Wellsburg WV before moving to St Clairsville for medical reasons. Dolores died at the age of 94 at Belmont Manor on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in St Clairsville OH. She was with her loving and devoted daughter, Lauren Finnical, at the time of her death.
Dolores was born in Warwood WV to the late William Argenta and Anna (Turkaly) Argenta who both modeled the importance of family, faith, a strong work ethic and service to community.
These became Dolores’s core values. Dolores was the oldest of the four Argenta children (Thomas, Noreen, and Donna). Dolores graduated from Wellsburg High School and at the age of 21, she married Ronald Glenn Antigo. Dolores and her husband enjoyed many good years together before his death in the year 2000.
During her husband’s long illness, Dolores provided him with the care and coordination of services which allowed him to remain in his home with only a brief nursing home stay.
Dolores’s husband frequently liked to comment on (well brag about) her many skills and accomplishments.
These included her work as a Collector and Treasurer for Wellsburg WV and her going back to school and eventually earning a master’s degree in library science.
She went on to become the Director of the Brooke County Library where she worked until she retired.
Other significant accomplishments were her recognition as an artist, being an excellent seamstress and creating a beautiful home for her family.
Hobbies included playing bridge, traveling and enjoying a competitive game of Scrabble with her siblings.
There were many family gatherings which included barbecues, volleyball and holiday dinners. Dolores, her husband and her children attended St John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Dolores is survived by Marcia (Bill) Lang of Marietta OH, Lauren (Bill) Finnical of St Clairsville, her sister Donna Lyons of Wellsburg WV, four grandchildren Ean Short, Josh Heidelbach, Tara (Garrett) Gearhart, Erin (Dustin) Hubbard, four great grandchildren, Lilian, Isaiah, Finley and Gray. Dolores also was blessed to have a large extended family whom she valued and enjoyed.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dolores was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Argenta, her sister Noreen Mechling and her grandson Ronald Brent Cook.
There will be no visitation.
A Catholic Funeral Mass with Father Justin Golna officiating at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church will occur at a future date. Inurnment will follow at St John Haven of Rest Cemetary in Colliers WV.
