DAVID BROOKS
 
								David L. Brooks, 79, of Toronto, OH, passed away Saturday June 22, 2024, in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH.
Dave was born July 27, 1944, in Mansfield, OH, son of the late Joseph Henry Brooks and Sarah Jane (Tapper) Brooks.
Prior to his retirement, Dave was the director of the Veterans Service Office in Holmes County, OH.
His memberships included the AMVETS 275 in Steubenville; former member and Past Commander of the Steubenville Legion Post 33; current member of the Adena Legion Post 525; Weirton VFW 2716; 1572; Weirton Moose Lodge 688; Weirton Marina Boat Club; Brilliant Boat Club; and the Rusty Anchor Boat Club in Toronto. He was also a former owner of the West Side Gym in Millersburg, OH.
Dave was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam War as a Corpsman.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by an infant son, Shawn Anthony; daughter, Tawni Lynn Guerra; and sister, Sharon Kay Brooks.
Surviving are his wife, Schelley A. (VanKirk) Brooks, whom he married Jan. 19, 2007; two sons, Jason (Patty) Brooks of Millersburg, OH, and Fredrick ‘Ricky’ Fugate of Toronto; son-in-law, Julio (Amber) Guerra of Killbuck, OH; brothers-in-law, Scott (Heather) VanKirk and Larry (Nikki) VanKirk; four grandchildren, Ricky (Hailey) Guerra, Reilly (Rachel) Guerra, Sosha Brooks, and Warner Brooks; great- granddaughter, Charlotte; and his faithful dog, Mattie.
A funeral service for Dave will be held at noon on Wednesday June 26, at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon. Pastor James Hoff will officiate, and burial will follow in the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH.
Military Honors will be presented by the Adena American Legion at the cemetery.
