EDITH MEYER

Edith Jane Meyer, 92, of Naperville, IL, formerly of Hudson, FL passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, with her family by her side. Jane was born on December 28, 1931, in Steubenville, OH, to Thomas Charles Mitchell and Sarah Jane nee Brittle. Jane was the heart and home of our family. She was married for 67 years to her soulmate, Vernon Don Meyer. Jane raised four children, Martin Meyer, Douglas (Caryn) Meyer, Kelly (Mark) Zaher and Stacey Meyer (Ramon Merrill) in a loving home to be independent and thoughtful adults. As a grandmother to Teal Digranes, Courtney Zaher, Heather Meyer, and Kelsey Meyer. She was always ready for fun and adventure and loved spending time with them. She was Beloved sister of William (Sue) Mitchell, and leaves behind many extended family members and friends. Jane was preceded in passing by her parents, Thomas and Sarah Mitchell, Sisters Shirley DiCarlo and Doris Hyde, and brothers Thomas Mitchell Jr, and Harry Mitchell. Jane grew up in Mingo Junction, OH and attended Mingo High School, class of 1949. She went on to earn her nursing credentials from Aultman School of Nursing in Canton, OH. Jane worked as a Registered Nurse for 4 years before taking time off to care of her family. Jane had a passion for decorating, cooking for her family, dancing, and gardening. She loved to make people laugh. Jane was the backbone of the family while her husband, Don’s, job took them from Chicago, to New Jersey, to Maryland, to Kansas, back to Chicago and then on to Miami. They eventually retired to Heritage Pines in Hudson, FL. She was a friend to many and a cherished member of all the communities where they lived, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. The family wants to thank the staff at Sunrise Naperville North and the Residential Hospice Team for their wonderful care and support. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated. The family is planning a Memorial Service for a future date.
