JOHN BECK
John passed away in Annapolis Maryland at the age of 77 surrounded by his loving family on May 21 2024.
He was born in Uniontown PA the son of Eleanor Cober & John Edward Beck.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years Shirley Gentzel Beck; daughters: Rochelle Dale (Michael) and Deb Yusko (Ryan) sisters Karen Holliday, Susan Palmer (Dennis), brother David Beck (Jane); and 4 wonderful grandchildren.
John was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Penn State with BSA, University of Tennessee with MSA.
He began his career after Penn State serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After leaving active duty he received a Masters Degree in Regional Planning at UT. John then worked 23 years advancing to Director at BHJ Regional Planning Commission. During those years he proudly worked on both the relocation of US 22 & the Veterans Bridge connecting OH & WV.
After leaving BHJ, John had his dream job overseeing exhibits at the Carnegie Science Center. We all loved going to Grandpa's exhibits.
John continued serving in the Navy Reserves for over 20 years & rose to become Captain Beck. He also loved recruiting for the Naval Academy in Maryland. Church was important to John. He served on numerous committees over his life at LaBelle View UM, Wintersville UM & as a member at Bell Chapel UM Churches.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bell Chapel United Methodist Church on Friday, June 21. Officiating will be Pastor Ryan Cockrill. Visitation at 10:00 AM followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. Memorial Donations may be made to Bell Chapel UM Church at 3419 Ohio-213 Steubenville Ohio 43952
