ROBERT “BOB” PHILLIPSON

Robert “Bob” V. Phillipson, age 84 of Bloomingdale, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born August 7, 1939 in Steubenville, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Eva Fonow Phillipson and his granddaughter, Cynthia Rose Phillipson.

Bob was a 1957 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp for 2 years. Bob was very proud of his service and followed the motto “once a Marine always a Marine.” Bob had a passion for carpentry in both residential and commercial construction projects in the Ohio Valley. In 1977, he was very fortunate to be able to work on the movie sets for the academy award winning movie “The Deerhunter”. Bob was a retired business representative of the Carpenters Union Local 186. His work ethic, dedication and grit were evident to anyone who met him. These are some of the greatest gifts he bestowed upon his children, and they are eternally grateful.

He enjoyed playing golf at Cadiz Country Club where he was an active member. He would go on golf trips at Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head and Pinehurst with friends and family. Bob was a member of several civic and community organizations throughout his life including: Serra Club, Project Best, Rotary Club of Steubenville, Jefferson County Historical Society, Tri-State Marines, Mingo Knights of Columbus, and Ohio Valley Health Center. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Wintersville, Ohio.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Frances “Marsha” Varkony, his daughter, Laurine (Jim) Cetovich of Powell, Ohio, and his son, Todd (Carol) Phillipson of Wintersville, Ohio and four grand- children, Mitchell, Luke, Mary Cetovich and Veronica Phillipson. He is also survived by his sisters, Sister Jean Phillipson, Shirley Huscroft and Ruth Koran as well as many nieces and nephews and step grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, from 3-6 pm at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel 4435 Sunset Blvd. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held Tuesday, June 25, 10 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, Wintersville. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
