LOUIS “LOU” STOCK

Louis Richard “Lou” Stock, 78, of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and his Pastor. Lou will forever be cherished as a devoted husband, father, and beloved Pap-Pap. Known for his outgoing nature, infectious happiness, and playful sense of humor, Lou was loved by all who knew him.

Born on January 22, 1946, in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio, Lou was one of two sons born to John T. and Florence Fekete Stock. As a young man, he met the love of his life, Marge King, while they were both working at a five-and-dime store in Wheeling, WV. Their love blossomed, and they were married on June 15, 1968, beginning a beautiful journey together that would span over five decades.

From 1966 to 1969, Lou honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a time that shaped his dedication to community and service. Upon his return, Lou embarked on a long and fulfilling career with C&P Telephone and later Verizon, where he retired as a Central Office Technician after 38 years. Lou’s leadership extended beyond his professional duties, as he took charge of company activities and events and played an active role in the community relations team.

Lou’s deep faith and commitment to his church, Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Weirton, were evident through his active participation in the Holy Name Society and numerous church projects. He and Marge dedicated countless hours to fundraising efforts and other initiatives, particularly during the Christmas season when they helped bring the spirit of the holidays to life.

Lou and Marge also enjoyed square dancing with the Spinning Gears Square Dancing Club and traveled extensively to attend National Conventions. They also enjoyed going on cruises. They shared a passion for winemaking and were active members of the Tri-State Winemaking Club. Lou’s contributions to his community extended to his involvement with the Knights of Columbus 3734, the Fourth Degree Assembly, and the Telephone Company Pioneers of West Virginia. He was also a former member of the BPOE 1801, and a lifetime member of the VFW 2716. In his free time Lou enjoyed flying model airplanes with his friend Tom.

In addition to his parents, Lou was preceded in death by his brother, John D. Stock. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, remembered fondly by his wife, Marjorie “Marge” King Stock, his son, Louis R. “Rick” Stock, II, and his wife Heather, as well as his five grandchildren, Ashleigh Shaw (Zachery), Kayleigh and Lukas Stock, and Dominic and Charlie Chivallatti.

Visitation will be held on Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, at 11 AM on Saturday, with Fr. Binu Sebastian and Fr. Larry Dorsch presiding.
