STEPHEN PAWLOCK
Stephen Joseph Pawlock, 77, of Weirton, WV, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Steve was a pillar of strength, hard work, and dedication throughout his remarkable life, leaving an enduring legacy for all who knew him.
Born on June 8, 1947, to Steve and Elizabeth Nemeth Pawlock, Steve was a lifelong resident of Weirton. From a young age, he exemplified an extraordinary work ethic, beginning as a caddy at Williams Country Club, walking to and from the job from his home on Weirton Heights.
Steve’s career was as diverse as it was impactful. After high school, he served as a prison guard in Moundsville, WV, worked as a master barber, and became a certified scuba diver, teaching scuba diving at the Millsop Community Center.
In the wake of the tragic explosion at Brown’s Island, his scuba diving skills were called upon to recover the remains of those lost in the Ohio River, an experience that eventually led to his hiring at Weirton Steel. For 47 years, Stephen worked as a Roll Grinder at the mill, retiring in 2021, and was a proud member of the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, where he once organized parking for the annual picnic.
He also served his community in unique ways, working as a process server and repo man for local lending institutions. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, American Legion, and VFW.
After his divorce, Steve found love and companionship with his soulmate, Corinna Coen, with whom he shared 30 devoted years. Together, they cultivated beautiful gardens around their home, enjoyed vacations to Florida, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. While vacationing in Mexico, in 2005, Hurricane Wilma had a devastating impact on their hotel. Their quick thinking and survivor skills saved several vacationers, a testament to their courage and resourcefulness.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Elizabeth Nemeth Pawlock, and his ex-wife, Sandra (Robinson) Pawlock.
He is survived by his beloved soulmate, Corinna Coen; his three cherished daughters, Shandel (Mike) Plaso, Stephanie Lowder, and Barbara (Aaron) Glover; his grandchildren, Shain Livada, Thaiddeus “Ted” and Elijah Dillie, Eva Lowder, and Grace Glover; and his former sons-in-law, Steven Livada and Eric Lowder. He is also survived by Corinna’s mother, Alfreda Coen, who Steve considered her as a mother.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton Friday from 4pm until 7 PM, and Saturday at 11 AM at Franklin Cemetery for graveside services.
