VERNON MACGREGOR
Vernon David MacGregor, affectionately known as Joe, passed away peacefully in Charlotte, North Carolina, on November 19, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on October 3, 1936, in Steubenville, Ohio, Vernon was the beloved son of Vernon B. and Ruth V. MacGregor (nee Garwood) and the adored brother of the late James MacGregor (Linda).
Although his report card may not have fully reflected his deep love of learning, Vernon was a true scholar at heart, as demonstrated by his time at multiple universities. He began his undergraduate studies at Ohio State University as a diver on the swim team, a member of the concert band, the Glee Club and Phi Mu Delta fraternity. Music was a lifelong passion. He would often break out in song for people and was known for his captivating singing voice and infectious smile. While he claimed to not be able to read music well, he had such a great ear that he could pick up any instrument and create a recognizable tune. He could truly garner an audience anywhere he went! Vernon also attended the University of Arizona for summer school and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany College, after which he dedicated 39 years to his career as a General Insurance Adjuster.
Family was paramount in Vern’s life. His late wife, Joanne M. MacGregor (Fornsaglio) held a special place in his heart, and together they created countless memories that continue to inspire their family. He is survived by his devoted children, Jana Heidt (Dan), David MacGregor (Aimee), Scott MacGregor, and Jeanne Diop (Sidy), along with his cherished grandchildren: Michael, Maya, Lydia, Nicolas, and Stella. He also leaves behind a large extended family that will always remember his vivid stories and zest for life.
Known for his love of red wine and vintage movies, along with his keen sense of humor, Vernon leaves behind a legacy of joy and laughter. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was truly one of a kind.
