DEBORAH FREEMAN
Deborah L. Freeman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, in Steubenville, Ohio. Born on May 26, 1949, in Freedom, Pennsylvania, she was the cherished daughter of the late Phillip Strauser and Martha Coleman.
Deborah was a dedicated secretary, retiring from the Steubenville Public School system after more than 30 years of service. Her passion for art was evident from a young age, earning her a scholarship for her exceptional talent. Beyond her professional life, Deborah was an avid baker and crafter, delighting her family with her creations.
Known for her kindness and generosity, Deborah was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She was married to Ray Freeman, the love of her life, for nearly 57 years. Together, they were staunch advocates for higher education, ensuring that their daughters, Chauntel and Kim, as well as their grandchildren, Aiyanna and Colin, had the opportunity to pursue college degrees.
Deborah’s love for her family was profound, and she was a constant source of encouragement and motivation. Christmas was her favorite time of year, as it brought her family together, filling her home with joy and laughter. She also had a deep love for gospel music, often singing with a voice that touched the hearts of those around her.
Preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Karen Thompson, Deborah leaves behind her devoted husband Ray, her daughters, grandchildren, and a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at Gregory Martin Chapel, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Deborah’s legacy of love and kindness will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
