MICHAEL BRICELAND

Michael Paul Briceland, 81, of Weirton, WV, a husband, father, and proud “Pappy,” passed away on January 7, 2025.

Born on March 30, 1943, in Steubenville, OH, he was one of four children born to Paul Raymond and Catherine Hughes Briceland.

Michael graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School and pursued higher education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, for one year before life called him to serve his country. A proud veteran, Michael answered that call during the Vietnam War, serving with the United States Air Force.

On June 20, 1964, Michael married Elaine Ciccolella. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with three sons, one daughter, and three grandchildren.

Michael worked as a foreman on the Number 5 Pickler in the Strip Steel Division of Weirton Steel, where he dedicated over 30 years of hard work before retiring. Beyond his career, Michael gave back to the Weirton community by volunteering as a coach for termite basketball, baseball, and the Weirton Steelers.

A gifted storyteller, Michael enjoyed writing short stories in his free time. Known for his quick wit, fun-loving spirit, and devotion to his family, he was a constant source of laughter and wisdom for those who knew him. In recent years, he wore his status as a veteran with pride, often reflecting on his service and the values it instilled in him.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, David Leo Briceland and his sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Jake Garrett.

He will be remembered with love by his wife, Elaine of sixty years; his daughter, Rhonda Briceland; his sons, Craig, David and Scott (Cynthia) Briceland; his grandchildren, Savannah Jo (Nick) McCartney, Audrey Lynn and Joseph Michael Briceland; and his great granddaughter, Everly Jo McCartney; and his sister, Barbara Coleman.
