CARROLL YOCUM
Carroll Yocum, 89, formerly of Brilliant, passed away peacefully April 11, 2025, at Feridean Commons Senior Housing in Westerville, Ohio.
Carroll was born Nov. 26, 1935, the only child of the late Henry and Hazel (Carroll) Ullrich.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ronald Yocum, two children, Matthew and Rebecca, and brother-in-law Pete Cola.
She is survived by three children – Robin (Melissa) Yocum of Galena; Margo (Tom) Baker of Buckeye Lake, and Rhonda Chapman of Westerville, eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Carroll was adopted as an infant by the Ullrichs. One of the best days of her life was when, at age 71, she discovered her four sisters. They all survive her. They are Sandy (Dick) Ritchie of Huntersville, Ind.; Cindy Cola of Fort Myers, Fla., Dru (Don) Millward of Centerville, Ohio; and Judy Childs of Columbus, Ohio. Carroll said that as a child she prayed for a sibling, but she was surprised that it took God 71 years to answer her prayers. Her sisters welcomed her into their lives, and she considered it one of her life’s great blessings.
Carroll graduated from Brilliant High School in 1953 and was a clarinet player for the Marching Blue Devils. Was a homemaker and a member of the Brilliant United Methodist Church for most of her life. She later moved her membership to the Church of the Master UMC in Westerville. She was active in the Brilliant High School and Buckeye North High School Athletic Mothers and band boosters. She was active in the Silver Tones senior choir and the Westerville Senior Center.
Arrangements are being handled by Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury, Ohio. A private, graveside service will be held for the family. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Carroll’s memory be made to the Brilliant Volunteer Fire Department, 1001 Third St., Brilliant, Ohio 43913.
