DONALD “RED” MOORE

Donald Eugene “Red” Moore, 89, of Wintersville, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 21, 2025. He was born on August 7, 1935 in Amsterdam, Ohio, to the late Charles and Clara (Ritchie) Moore. In addition to his parents, Red is preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Samuel; his sister-in-laws, Shirley and Joy; and his son-in-law, John Striker.

Red was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who absolutely adored his family. He worked his whole life doing construction, and one of his many famous lines was “I helped build this road we’re on.” Red, Glenn Cable, and Jack Hughes were some of the many important men who helped create the manmade lake now known as Austin Lake. He worked for the Village of Wintersville and at Austin Lake for 61 years. He loved to take his grandchildren for hayrides and spent every Saturday doing hayrides. He was born and raised on a farm in Amsterdam and left school in 8th grade to go work for the mines to help out his family. He owned a horse named Blackie and would say he was “so quick, he’d turn on a quarter and give you change.”

He is survived by his wife, Dolores (Crispino) Moore; his daughters, Therese (Roger) Stacey and Sharon Striker; his sister, Jean (Edward) Ondusko; his grandchildren, Vanessa Stacey, Zachary (Sarah) Stacey, and Shane (Taylor Steeves) Stacey; his great grandchildren, Ayden, Cecilia, Alexis, and Easton Stacey; and his many nieces and nephews.
