FRANCIS DILORETO

Francis J. “Francie” DiLoreto, 93, of Mingo Junction, OH passed away Friday May 2, 2025 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

He was born in 1931 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a son of the late Domenico and Virginia Giovannucci DiLoreto, both of Pratola Peliqna L’Aguila, Italy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his beautiful wife of 69 years, Gertrude (DiCarlo) DiLoreto whom he married June 11, 1955 at St. Agnes Church. She joined him in heaven just 19 hours after his passing.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Theresa Venti of Steubenville, OH, Mafalda DiLoreto of Steubenville, OH, Vincenza DiLoreto of Mingo Junction, OH and Anita DelGallo of Mingo Junction, OH; two brothers, Ettore V. (Sue) DiLoreto of Steubenville, OH and Salvatore (Rose) DiLoreto of New Britain, CT; and the best mother and father-in-law anyone could ask for, Attilio and Amelia (Lugano) DiCarlo.

Francie entered the military during the Korean War in the Navy “Seabees” Battalion. He was a retired employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel with 44 years of service in the Maintenance Dept.

He loved being involved in church duties at St. Bernadette and St. Agnes Church. He was a server, cantor, lector and choir member.

He was a member of the Mingo Knights of Columbus Council #4361 for 68 years. He was a past Grand Knight of Mingo Council from 1990-1992 and held the office of treasurer until 2016.

He entered political duties as a past councilman and president of council for the village of Mingo for 20 years.

Francie is survived by three children, Diane Demayo of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Doreen (Douglas) Houser of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and David DiLoreto of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister, Josephine Chiodo of Fairport, NY; two grandsons, Anthony Demayo and Joseph Demayo both of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received for visitation for both Francie and Gertie at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 204 St. Clair Ave., Mingo Junction, Ohio on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of their Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant. There will be a Rosary Service by the Mingo Knights of Columbus at 5:40 p.m. Private entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, OH.

GERTRUDE DILORETO

Gertrude A. “Gertie” DiCarlo DiLoreto, 91, of Mingo Junction, OH passed away Saturday May 3, 2025 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

She was born April 15, 1934 in Mingo Junction, OH a daughter of the late Attilio “Til” and Amelia T. (Lugano) DiCarlo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart of 69 years, Francis J. “Francie” DiLoreto, whom she married on June 11, 1955. She joined him in heaven only 19 hours after his passing.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Valuska and her husband Dr. James Valuska, Sr.

Gertie is survived by three children, Diane Demayo of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Doreen (Douglas) Houser of Fort Lauderdale, FL and David DiLoreto of Pittsburgh, PA. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to two grandsons, Anthony Demayo and Joseph Demayo, both of Egg Harbor Twp, NJ. She also had several nieces and nephews that she dearly loved; and many cousins and friends.

She worked for 35 years as an office manager in the medical field, including 10 years for her nephew Dr. James Valuska, Jr. and Dr. Thomas Lhewreau. She retired from at Valley One Credit Union where she worked for 10 years.

Gertie graduated from Mingo High School in 1952 and was a member of the Mingo Drum and Buglers Core as a Majorette Navy Bell. She was also homecoming queen her senior year. Gertie was a lifetime member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Catholic Womens Club.
