CATHERINE SGALLA
Catherine Ann Balash Sgalla, 84, of Grove City, Ohio, passed away with her family by her side on July 16, 2025. She was born to the late Steve and Ann Pacuit Balash on August 13, 1940, in Bradley, Ohio on her family farm – a place full of family, love and fond memories. In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her husband Gino G. Sgalla and her son John H. Sgalla.
A graduate of Smithfield High School and retired teacher from Buckeye Local School District, Cathy held a deep connection to nature and loved animals of all kinds. She will certainly be missed by the many birds and squirrels that enjoyed countless meals in her yard. But more than anything, Cathy loved her family and friends. She gave without question, loved without condition, and was always ready with an offer for a cup of tea to anyone who came to her home.
Cathy is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Puch and Cynthia J. Sgalla, grandson Christopher J. Sgalla, brother Steve (Beverly) Balash, Jr., and nieces Michelle (John) Lencioni, Stephanie (Michael) Milburn, and Anne Marie Balash.
In accordance with Cathy’s wishes, a private service will be held for immediate family at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Cathy’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or charity of your choice.
