BENJAMIM COPENHAVER

Benjamin George “Buck” Copenhaver, 87, of Colliers, WV died peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Valley Hospice Care North in Steubenville, OH with his family by his side.
Born October 23, 1937, in Colliers, WV, a son of the late Bernard and Anna (Snyder) Copenhaver. In addition to his parents, Buck is preceded in death by three brothers, Rev. William Copenhaver, Duane Copenhaver, and Jackie Lee “Jack” Copenhaver.
He graduated from Follansbee High School in 1955. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during peacetime. Buck then retired from Weirton Steel Corporation after 29 years of service where he worked as a clerk in the finished products warehouse. He was a member of the Paris Presbyterian Church. He was also a lifelong member of the Colliers Sportsman’s Club.
Buck was a true outdoorsman. His true passion was hunting and ginsenging but the love he had for his children came first so he and Norma followed their children in all their sporting events. Buck was very outgoing and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma (Wilson) Copenhaver; three children, Michael Copenhaver and wife Tina of Fayetteville, NC, Kevin Copenhaver and wife Tiffany of Barboursville, WV, Michelle Slusarz and husband Scott of Brook Park, OH; eight grandchildren, Brenton (Shannon) Copenhaver, Alexa (Sam) Jordan, Annie Copenhaver, Ally Copenhaver, Hannah Copenhaver, Emily Slusarz, Lindsey Copenhaver, and Mason Slusarz; five great- grandchildren, Lilly Grace, Kaci Dawn, Henry, Hunter, and Max; his sister, Phyllis Aria of Colliers, WV; sister-in-law, Joyce (Joe) McFarland of Follansbee, WV; along with many nieces and nephews.
He will always be the Chief.
Visitation for Buck will be held on Friday, August 22 from 1 p.m. until time of his Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV with Rev. Nadia Stropich officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad and the Army Honor Guard.
