DOROTHY MAKARA

Dorothy A. Makara, 94, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away peacefully Thursday July 31, 2025 in her home under the care of hospice, and exceptional caretakers, just five days shy of her 95th birthday.
She was born August 5, 1930 in Mingo Junction, OH, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Ubrin) Marcinko. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Makara, Jr. on January 12, 2016; her son-in-law, Steve Kozora; a nephew, James “Jimbo” Marcinko; three brothers, James Marcinko, John Marcinko and infant George Marcinko; four sisters, Anna Mattey, Mary Tatar, Elizabeth Woodward and Sue Tatar; and her beloved companion Zippy the cat.
Dorothy was the manager at the former Earring Tree at the Fort Steuben Mall. She enjoyed going to Wheeling Downs. She had a great eye for fashion and was current on the latest trends for not only herself but decorating her home as well. When she was able, she lived a vibrant life and she did it her way.
Surviving are two daughters, Bonita Farinelli of Carnegie, PA and Tammy Kozora of Colliers, WV; a son, Joseph R. “Ricky” Makara of Mingo Junction, Ohio; a grandson, Brandon (Steph) Rouse of Avella, PA; and her multiple grand fur babies and great-grand fur babies.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, OH on Monday from 3-7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of her celebration of life service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Vaughn Foster, officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo Junction, OH.
