JANICE BUCHANAN

Janice L. “Jan” Buchanan, 72, of Toronto, OH, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025, in the Gables Care Center in Hopedale, OH.
Jan was born September 16, 1952, in Steubenville, OH, daughter of the late Jacob T. and Madge (Sinnett) Reeves. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte Gatton and brothers, Jake, Richard, Robert “Bob” and Jeff Reeves.
She was a 1970 graduate of Toronto High School. After high school she married her husband, Clint A. “Buck” Buchanan, Sr. on June 12, 1970, and later started to raise their family.
She worked at several local grocery stores in the area and eventually worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Weirton Geriatric for 16 years. In 2015 she was named an Outstanding Assisted Living Professional by the West Virginia Healthcare Association.
Jan also was the co-owner of the family business, Buchanan Excavating, which was formed in the early 1990s. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and a loyal friend, who had the hardest time ever saying no. Jan was the “Rock” of her family always wanting the best for them.
She was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and loved to watch Gunsmoke. Jan was known to have a longstanding man-crush on Peyton Manning. She also could survive solely on the 3-C’s: Coke, Chocolate (Reese Cups) and Coffee.
Jan leaves behind her husband Buck, son Clint A., Jr. (Chonda Gowin), daughter Michelle (Charles) Rawson, and son, Thomas (Angie Johnson), sister-in-law, Catherine Reeves; five grandchildren, DJ (Jason) Sayers, Carlie Buchanan (Cam Oulds), Keira, Austin and Aiden Buchanan, two great-grandchildren, Ruby and Ive Sayers, her snowfox dog, “Dozer” and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where services take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Rev. John E. Fitch will officiate, and burial will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. www.jefosterfh.com.
