SUZANNE MASON
Suzanne Catherine Mason, 96, of Weirton W.V., passed away on August 4th, 2025 at home with her son and daughters with her. She was born on June 14, 1929, a daughter of Irish immigrants, the late Thomas and Catherine Gallagher McElwain.
She grew up in a loving family with six sisters and one brother and one bathroom. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Steubenville, Ohio. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic church in Weirton, WV and was involved with St. Paul’s Christian Mothers, Mother of Mary, taught CCD classes and made over a thousand baptismal robes.
Suzanne was a devoted wife and mother. She was the heart and soul of her family. She was artistically talented, creative, full of simple wisdom and endless love. Her kindness and her strength were abundantly clear and quietly delivered. She found joy in helping others without acknowledgement. She will be missed by all those who had the privilege of meeting her.
After graduating high school, on August 25, 1952 she married Clarence Edmund Mason, a 40-year employee of Weirton Steel Co. and had 3 children: Surviving are Mary Kay Smolewski, Terry Mason and wife Tracey and Beth Robertson.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 35 years, and her sisters: Kathleen Wallace, Helen Crosby, Mary Alice Schmitt, Theresa McIntosh, Margaret Tombow, and her brother, James McElwain. She is survived by her sister Judy Andrews Pinyot.
Also surviving her and continuing her legacy of offering kindness to the world are her eight grandchildren: Chris Ross, Marissa Parin and husband Chris, Casey Mason, Ryan Mason and wife Samantha, Shelby Robertson and his wife Leah, Amber Volante and husband Randy and Brandon Smolewski and wife Autumn.
Visitation will take place Thursday, August 7, from 3:00 to 6:00pm, at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, 380 Penco Road, Weirton, where the funeral service will take place Friday at 11:00am with Rev. Fr. Binu Sebastian presiding. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery with her beloved Clarence.
