JOSEPH HAMROCK

Joseph G. Hamrock, 88, of Mingo Jct., passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025. Born in Mingo Jct. on June 5, 1937, he was the son of the late Stephen J. and Anna R. Hamrock.

Joe was a lifelong Catholic and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather whose greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Theresa M. (O’Malley) Hamrock; his children, Joe (Lori), Patrick (Rhonda), and Lori (Scott) Criss; his cherished grandchildren, Joey, Jessica, Michael, Luke, Katie (Drew), Maggie (Nick), Anna (Sam), Sophie, Zanovia, and Alex; and his great grandchildren, Daniel, Aiden, Nathan, James, and Ellie. He is also survived by his brother Steve (Mary Frances). He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ann, Frances (Fred) Menzel, Dolores (John) Ciafardone, and a brother, James (infant).

Joe loved to travel the world with his wife and family, and he enjoyed passing on his skills and hobbies to his family, including gardening, traditional cooking, and construction. He will be remembered for his deep faith and prayer life, the love and joy he shared throughout life with his growing family, and his unwavering integrity in all he did.

Joe was a 1962 graduate of The University of Steubenville, and previously attended St. John Vianney Seminary. He was a dedicated public servant, serving six terms as Jefferson County Clerk of Courts from which he retired in 2000. He served as the president of the Ohio Clerk of Courts Association. He also taught Latin and Government at the high school level. He held teaching positions in Barnesville, Brilliant, and at Steubenville Catholic Central High School where he was a member of the class of 1955. He served on the Mingo Jct. City Council, including a term as president. He also served on various boards including the board of the United Way of Jefferson County where he also served a term as chair of the board and the annual fund drive. He was the first president of the Ohio Valley Transit Authority, and he served on St. Agnes Parish Council, including as president, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His colleagues referred to him as a “true gentleman in every sense of the word”.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2:00pm – 6:00pm at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Additional visitation will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Wednesday from 10:00am until time of Mass at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
