DANNY NICKOLES

Danny Nickoles, 94, of Colliers, WV, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Valley Hospice, Liza’s Place, in Wheeling, WV.

Danny was born on August 16, 1931, in Louise, WV, at home, which served as a boarding house at the time. He was the son of the late George and Mary (Fisher) Nickoles.

Danny attended Scott’s Run School until the age of 16, when he left to work in the coal mines alongside his dad to help support his family as one of 15 siblings. This sacrifice followed the loss of his oldest brother, Louis Nickoles, who was killed in action in the Philippines during World War II.

In 1953, Danny volunteered to be drafted during the Korean War and proudly served in the United States Army. Shortly after he entered service, a peace agreement was signed while he was training in Germany. After returning home, Danny began building his family and went to work at Koppers.

In 1956, he married the love of his life, Grace Cameron. Together they raised three sons and built a strong, loving family that became the center and backbone of Danny’s life. He worked at Koppers for many years, both as an hourly and salaried employee, ultimately achieving the position of supervisor in the mill.

Danny retired at age 56 and began farming alongside his sons at the Nickoles Brothers Farm in Cross Creek, a beef cattle farm that continues to this day. He was a hard worker, a lifelong member of Cross Creek Tent United Presbyterian Church, served as Board President of the Tent Church Cross Creek Cemetery Association and a lifetime member of the Colliers Sportsman Club.

Danny will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family, which remained at the heart of everything he did. He cherished spending time farming with his sons, restoring farm equipment, and sharing stories of local history.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his youngest son, Jeffrey Owen Nickoles, and numerous siblings.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Grace (Cameron) Nickoles; two sons, Greg Nickoles and his wife, Carol, and Randy Nickoles and his wife, Edenn; a daughter-in-law, Vickey Nickoles; three brothers, Rudy, Mike, and Mark Nickoles; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at Cross Creek Tent United Presbyterian Church, Colliers, WV, with Reverend Frank Lewis and Pastor Frank Haas officiating.

The James Funeral Home of Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717 is honored and privileged to serve the Nickoles family during this time of loss and Celebration of Life.

Interment will follow at Tent Church Cemetery with Military Honors by the West Virginia Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, C/o James Funeral Home, 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, WV 26037.
