SHIRLEY GUZ
Shirley Kay Guz, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully with her loving family by her side on January 20, 2026, at Woodland Hills Assisted Living.
Born on September 21, 1935, in Alma, WV, she was a cherished daughter of Glennie and Audra Arnett Tennant and was proud to be one of five children.
A 1953 graduate of Weir High School, Shirley’s adventurous spirit led her to marry the love of her life, Mr. Chester Guz, on June 27, 1953. Although Chester departed this world on January 16, 2008, their love remains an enduring testament to their life together.
Shirley lived a life grounded in faith as a dedicated member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church for over sixty years. She embraced her role as a homemaker and worked tirelessly alongside her family on their farm, raising her children with love and strong values. Known for her spirited nature, her family affectionately described her as feisty–always ready to share her opinion and offer her free advice.
A lover of creativity, Shirley found joy in creating beautiful ceramic pieces and surrounded herself with the uplifting sounds of gospel music, particularly from groups like the Kingsmen and The Gaithers. She cherished her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness and were her greatest pride and joy.
Shirley Kay Guz lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering faith in God. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband Chester, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers Edgar and Charles Tennant, and sisters Doris Adams and Lena Eureka.
Shirley is survived by her sons Glenn Guz, Michael (Savannah) Guz all of Weirton, daughters Joy (Jay) Householder of Calcutta and Cindy (Bill) Blake of New Cumberland, grand children Elizabeth (Ruben) Murphy, Meghan Guz, Amanda (Paul) Bradley, Emily (Bruce) Stacey, and Sarah Householder, great-grandchildren Noah Murphy, Theodore Stacey, and Gwendolyn Bradley.
Shirley’s family will receive friends on Thursday, January 22, from 11:00 am until the time of her 1:00 pm funeral service at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 101 Lisa Ct. Weirton, WV 26062.
Burial will follow immediately in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Reverend Kyle Ashley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s name to the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.
Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff at Woodland Hills Assisted Living for the love they had shown her during her stay, always including her and making her feel as if she were a part of their extended family.
