MICHAEL P. ELLIS
Michael P. Ellis, known to friends and family as Mike, passed away on January 17, 2026, in Tampa, FL, following a lengthy illness. Born on August 4, 1951, in Steubenville, OH, Mike’s life was marked by a generosity of spirit and a dedication to his loved ones. His departure is deeply felt by family and friends.
Mike’s early years were spent in WV. He graduated from Weir High School, where he developed his passion for sports and his strong Christian faith. Mike carried these passions throughout his life, finding joy through both.
After high school, Mike ventured into his professional life. He enjoyed his work in the medical and entertainment fields, contributing to both and earning the respect of his colleagues.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Sophie and Andy Ellis but his legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Joetta Ellis of FL, his stepchildren, Veronica Kinney of OH and Bradley Kinney of NJ, and his cherished grandsons, Ian and Gabriel Adams of OH. He is also survived by his siblings, Margaret VanKirk of OH, Marianne Ellis of WV, John Ellis of PA, Steve Ellis of TN, and Andy Ellis of TN. His extended family, including over 25 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, will fondly remember his loving presence.
Mike was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following football, especially WVU and the Steelers, and was a collector of sports memorabilia. His interests also included following the Little League World Series and March Madness. Mike found pleasure in grilling and was the champion of family cookouts. Above all, he treasured the moments spent with his family, particularly his grandsons, with whom he shared life’s simple pleasures.
Mike’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by his family and friends. Mike’s impact on his family and friends was significant, and his spirit of generosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
As we bid farewell to Mike, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family. Mike’s journey on earth may have concluded, but his influence and the memories he created will endure for generations to come.
Plans for a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
