FRANCIS BERGSMA
Francis Xavier Bergsma, age 17, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away after a nearly two-year battle with brain cancer on February 28, 2026. He was born on December 29, 2008, to Dr. and Mrs. John and Dawn Bergsma.
Francis will be remembered for his loyalty and spirit of service to his friends and family, and for never losing his faith and hope while facing cancer. Francis loved studying Japanese, watching funny videos, and laughing over Mad Libs with his siblings.
Francis is survived by his parents John and Dawn; his seven siblings: Peter (Christine), Johannes, Hope (Cody) Shanley, Christian (Clare), Rose (John) Macdonald, Lucia, and Nik; his niece and two nephews; his grandfather Kenneth Koster; and his grandmother Luella Bergsma.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 4, from 2-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 am at Christ the King Chapel at Franciscan University. There will be additional visitation at the church from 10-11 am before Mass. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
