RICHARD ‘RICK’ COSENZA

Richard “Rick” Cosenza, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away. peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on April 2, 2026.

Rick was born on August 12, 1959, and spent his life rooted in Weirton, he built a legacy of hard work family devotion, and lasting friendships, known for his welcoming nature and easy conversation.

Rick never met a stranger, his door was always open, and visitors were always greeted with a smile.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Elaine Iaquinta, who raised him, his brothers, Nick Cosenza and Ronnie Richards.

Rick survived by his devoted wife of forty-five years, Sandra Cosenza, his children Richard (Connie) Reed, Kevin Reed, Richelle (Brad) Weaver, and his cherished grandchildren, Chelsey Reed, Madison Efaw, and Brandon Efaw. He is also survived by his mother Elaine Richards, his stepfather Ron (Jan) Richards, his siblings Ladonna Orlando, Harry (Lisa) Richards, Kerrie (Cody) Ellison, Shirley DiCarlantonio, Anna Marie Costentini, Nicky Lee Cosenza, and Patsy Cosenza, and his Godmother, Carmen McBride whose steady, loving presence enriched his life in countless ways, and many nieces and nephews.

Rick graduated from Weir High School and began his working career with his uncle at Iaquinta Auto-Body and Towing. He later served the City of Weirton, retiring as a mechanic.

A life-long passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Rick held season tickets and rarely missed a home game, attending faithfully with his wife Sandra by his side. One of his greatest joys and proudest accomplishments was building his lake house at Seneca Lake, where he spent countless hours fishing, relaxing, and making memories with family and friends.

Rick’s greatest accomplishment was raising his three children and being a steady, loving presence in the lives of those around him. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, carrying his faith quietly but faithfully throughout his life.

Rick will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his love of family, and his ability to make everyone feel at home. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends may visit Rick’s family on Tuesday, April 7, from 4- 7 pm at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 8, at 10:00 am at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton.

Fr. Binu Sebastian will preside.

Burial will follow immediately in St. Paul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rick’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.

Rick’s family would like to thank Dr. Cherian John, Dr. Toni Sicenica, and Valley Hospice for their expert care and devotion to Rick’s life during his illness.
