JAMES COFFEY
James D. Coffey, 65, of Toronto, OH, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, surrounded by family after a lengthy illness.
Jim was born on January 16, 1961, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late James T. and Elizabeth Jean (Vosvick) Coffey.
He was a 1979 graduate of Toronto High School and had attended The Ohio State University majoring in Health and Safety. Jim retired from Shell Oil (former Quacker State) in 2023 with over 30 years of service.
Jim was a life-long member of the Toronto Lions Club, visiting several different countries with his parents in support of the club and its charities. He oversaw the Homecoming festivities for the Lions Club and Toronto High School for over 20 years.
Jim’s favorite pastime was attending both Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns football games with his father and later with other family members.
In addition to his parents, Jim and Betty, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Rowyn Michael Coffey.
Jim leaves behind his wife, Darci (Allen) Coffey; son, James T. II and wife Erica Coffey; former wife, Linda Nau Coffey; stepchildren, Dylan (Madison) Hurst and Catarina Hurst, and six grandchildren, Cyrus James and Sawyer Phoenix Coffey, Jack Matthew, Drake Benjamin, Lucille Renee and Charlotte Rae Hurst. Jim was the best Pap any of them ever knew.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, from 4-7 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where his service will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. Jane Schockey will officiate, and his burial will follow in the Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto.
