Martin Dodrill
Martin Carlin Dodrill, 77 of Follansbee, WV, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center under the care of the staff with the assistance of Valley Hospice and his family at his side.
Martin was born on April 9, 1949, in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late Carlin Dodrill and Lois (Stewart) Dodrill.
Martin dedicated 40 years to public health and hospital management, including 25 years with Grand Lake Health System in St. Mary’s, Ohio, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues for his leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of his community. Martin’s work went beyond the office–he believed in making healthcare accessible and compassionate, and his influence is still felt by many who benefited from his dedication.
He was an active member of Cedar Lodge and the Giuseppe Garibaldi Lodge in Follansbee, WV, and also served his community as a Rotarian, supporting local projects and fostering a spirit of fellowship. Martin had a zest for life outside of work; he loved golfing, often finding joy in the camaraderie of friends on the course, and he had a keen eye for photography, capturing moments and landscapes with a thoughtful and patient perspective. His love of photography reflected his gentle, observant nature–he noticed the small details in life that others might miss. Friends and family remember Martin not just for his hobbies, but for his warm smile, quiet humor, and the generous way he gave his time and attention to those he cared about.
Martin is survived by his sister, Carolyn Bruno and her husband, Bill, a niece, Jana Cipriani and her husband, Mike, a nephew, Marco Bruno and his wife, Jessica, four great nieces, Angelina and Giana Montesano, and Julia and Rosalie Bruno, and a great nephew, Joseph Bruno.
The James Funeral Home of Follansbee, WV is honored and privileged to serve the family with a Private Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Follansbee, WV, where Martin will be laid to rest with his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, C/o James Funeral Home, 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, WV 26037 to advance studies on Alzheimer’s Disease that affected his mother.
