PHILIP BRAKEBILL
Philip Edward Brakebill, Jr. 93, of Sacramento, California passed away on April 18, 2026, in Sacramento, CA.
A Memorial Service will be held at noon on May 5, 2026, at East Lawn Memorial Park on Folsom Blvd in Sacramento. Interment follows also at East Lawn.
Philip, better known as PEB, Jr., Bud or Buddy, was born in Uhrichsville, OH to Philip Edward Brakebill, Sr. and Hazel Eunice Furbay on June 27, 1932. He graduated from New Cumberland High School in New Cumberland, West Virginia May 25, 1950. He was married in Carson City, Nevada 65 years ago to Nancy May Battaglia on September 26, 1960. His work ranged from honoring the deceased by creating beautiful caskets, to creating a different kind of beauty in landscape maintenance and finally as a proud hardworking utility worker for the local Sacramento municipal utility company, SMUD. He was a veteran of the Korean War (1950-54) serving in the United States Navy as a Gunnery Mate 3 and then the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Free Masons of West Virgina and descended from the Sons of the American Revolution.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father and younger siblings: Diana Donohue, John W. “Jack” Brakebill.
Philip is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Michelle Louise; Sister, Marilou Racer; and great granddaughter, Cameron Elizabeth (“Cammie Liz”) Ball and her parents Cara & David Ball; nine nieces and nephews and abundant “greats”.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Philip’s name to the following organizations: UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento Hospice Program or Sacramento Shriners Children’s Hospital Northern California (Sacramento).
